Setting up Eudora Pro 5.2 Email Reader

Eudora 5.2 is the new release of the Qualcomm email client with added email management tools. Eudora is no longer developed as a separate Eudora Pro and Light versions. Instead, users can select any of three operating modes from within the same Eudora email client software.

The three modes are:
Sponsored Mode
Full-featured Eudora email program at no charge. Sponsored mode displays a series of static onscreen advertisements that do not interfere with the user's email workspace.

Paid Mode
Operating in Paid mode gives you the advantages of the Sponsored mode version of Eudora email, but without the advertising.

Light Mode
The free download of Eudora 5.2 automatically installs in Sponsored mode, but users have the choice of switching to Light mode if they prefer.
Light mode is an upgrade for existing Eudora Light users, and does not contain advertising, but includes fewer features than Sponsored or Paid modes.

The following instructions will guide you through the downloading and configuring of this package. other than the specific account and server settings you may wish to vary the options set below. Please read carefully through the instructions completely before commencing.

Advanced Set up

Using Multiple Email Accounts on a Single PC

NOTE: ONLY use this section if you are setting up more than one email address on a single computer.

Eudora can be setup to allow customers with more than one email account to configure a single computer to read multiple email accounts and keep the information for each account separate. For demonstration purposes we used two generic named email accounts.

When you create your folders replace the generic account names shown below with your own personal email account names
(the first part of your email address before the @ symbol)

The two accounts being used for this demonstration are:
user1@cantech.net.au and user2@cantech.net.au

For each separate email account you need to create a separate folder somewhere on your hard disk.

  • Using Windows Explorer create a folder called c:\email (or similar)

NOTE: Please don't use spaces in the folder names as this could cause problems further on in the configuration.

  • Inside this folder create a new folder for each of the email accounts that you want to set up. Use the username as the name of the folder (see example).

Close all windows until you're back at the desktop screen.

NOTE: For each email account repeat the following process of creating a new shortcut.
This will leave you with an Icon on your desktop for each of the separate email accounts.

  • Right click on the Windows Desktop and from the pop up menu
  • Click New

  • Now Click on the Shortcut item.

  • Browse to the location of the Eudora program file (generally C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora).
  • Double click on the Eudora.exe file, this should return you to a screen that looks something like this.

Note: The location of the program file will depend on where you originally installed it on your computer.

  • Click on the Next button.

  • Type the Name of the shortcut in the text box.
  • Click the Finish button.

Note:
The name of the shortcut should be unique and relate to the email account name.

Configuring the New Mailbox Icons

The two new shortcuts now need to be configured to allow Eudora to use the different locations created for each account.

  • Right click on the first new email icon (User1 Email).

  • From the pop up menu Click on Properties.

  • From the Properties dialog box you need to modify the Target Location: and the Start in: text boxes to reflect the locations of the new mailboxes.
  • In the Target Location box add the full path to the new mailbox (eg "c:\email\user1") make sure this text is enclosed in double quotes as shown in the diagram.
  • In the Start In text box remove the current setting and again add the full path to the new mailbox location (eg "c:\email\user1") make sure this text is enclosed in double quotes as shown in the diagram.
  • Click OK to complete the modifications for this icon.
  • Repeat the process for each of the new email icons you created, remembering to use the unique path for each different account
(i.e. for the second account the path is "c:\email\user2").

Eudora is now setup to user different mailboxes for each user.
The shortcuts you have created can be left on the desktop or moved to any location of your choice.

NOTE: You now need to customise each mailbox you have created by completing the "Configuring Eudora Light" section of the notes.
